This is a very inspiring and a humorous speech where Rita builds the feeling of Ethos by describing how her grandparents, parents and now herself are teaching in the same school, for many years to date. Rita brings in Pathos when she talks about her mother's death at 92 and the legacy that she left behind bringing tears to her and many students.
Rita hears her colleague say: "They don't pay me to like the kids" for which she replies that Kids don't learn from people, they don't like, which is true in my opinion. She does state the value and importance of human connection.
George Washington says, "All Learnings are about relationships". She then gives a real life example of how a kid took a 20 Question Quiz and when corrected, the kid had missed 18 Questions, getting only 2 right. Rita marked a 2+ on the paper and marked a smily face next to it. The student was puzzled and asked, "Why did you give me a smily face when I had failed?" Rita replied, atleast you got 2 right on the Quiz and you can get better the next time you take it. The kid exclaimed, "YaY". This is truly inspiring, since she motivated a kid to do better.
